Direct address to the Afghan people
Posted by Michael Signer

A very strong part of the speech was the President's direct address to the Afghan people... who have too often felt either lectured to or ignored by external leaders.  Barack Obama has a unique ability to communicate with peoples around the world, by virtue I think not just of his background, but his intellectual and emotional style and approach.  That he makes a president speaking directly to the assembled masses of another country thousands of miles away suggests something very positive about the evolution of American power from the Bush years.

Hi,
Nevertheless, as Richard Holbrooke recently said, and I quote, “If Afghanistan had the best government on earth, a drug-free culture and no corruption; it would still be unstable if the situation in Pakistan remained as today. That is an undisputable fact.”
