What is John McCain talking about?
Posted by Max Bergmann
I mean really - what is he talking about?
In the Wall Street Journal today, McCain and Lieberman write?
Top leaders in Asia have warned that a precipitous American retreat from Iraq would empower al Qaeda in its global terror campaign and badly undermine America's position in Asia. We should listen to them.
Which top leaders? Who are they talking about? Do McCain and Lieberman realize that John Howard is no longer Prime Minister of Australia?
Which top leaders? Who are they talking about? Do McCain and Lieberman realize that John Howard is no longer Prime Minister of Australia?
Or that Australia isn't part of Asia?

I was expecting McCain to be more knowledgeable, especially after he wrote a profile of Gandhi in his book. Apart from that, I don't think ignorance about world politics in general is so uncommon in America. George Dubya Bush couldn't name the prime ministers of India and Pakistan (where Musharraf had usurped power) before his election in '99 (I wonder if he knows/remembers the name even now). Also India wasn't a country to remember much about for most Americans till now. But after 9/11 I was surprised how many of my American friends didn't know where Afghanistan was despite of American involvement since 1978-79 (and even after the movie Rambo III or II is "dedicated to the brave warriors of Afghanistan").

John McCain's early military career began when he was commissioned an ensign and started two and a half years of training at Pensacola to become a naval aviator. While there, he earned a reputation as a partying man.

While generally adhering to conservative principles, McCain at times has had a media reputation as a "maverick" for his willingness to disagree with his party on certain issues.

While listenining to the Rachel Maddow Show, I was struck by the fact that CBS excluded McCain's gaffe about Iraq but included his statement basically calling Obama a traitor. Could this be the precursor to the MSM's swiftboating of Obama?
