The Costs of War

Here you can find a pretty cool map just created by the Center for American Progress showing the cost of the Iraq war to US taxpayers in a friendly interactive way. The irony is that it seems that taxpayers in states that lean Democratic are actually bearing the brunt of the costs to keep Bush's War going.
The total works out to about $2,100 for every man, woman, child, and baby in the United States.

Bush's war? Hasn't the Congress been appropriating the funds to continue it? Haven't the three leading Democratic presidential hopefuls conceded they could not guarantee that all U.S. combat troops would be gone from Iraq by 2013, the end of the next president's first term in office?

Irony isn't quite so visible to me here. The costs appear to be apportioned to states by population, so the larger states are said to pay more.
