Obama wins "Messiah mentions" straw poll
Posted by Shadi Hamid
Well, it seems that this "Obama as Savior" thing continues to spread. Why is it that so many of us have suspicions that Barack Obama is the second coming of Christ? I decided to investigate the matter further by doing some Google searches:
"McCain is the Messiah": 0 results
"Guiliani is the Messiah": 0 results
(Surprisingly) "Brownback is the Messiah": 0 results
"Tancredo is the Messiah": 1 result
"Hillary Clinton is the Messiah": 2 results
"Mohammed is the Messiah": 10 results
"Bono is the Messiah": 6 results
"Obama is the Messiah": 360 results
I would have expected Bono to poll higher.

Of course if you actually pursue the links from those hits, you find out that most of them point to pieces by snarky smart-asses picking up on the discussion in other pieces by other snarky smart-asses, all reproducing the same memes germinated by a snarky New York Times piece and a snarky Salon satire, which themselves purport to be tuning into some sort of zeitgeist that doesn't exist outside their snarky little circle.
But assuming you're serious about what is at the root of this cottage industry of snark, I would say that there are two main factors: (1) Obama is religious and (2) Obama is a black man with charisma. Both of these traits are threatening to the mainly non-black, mainly college educated, mainly young cool kids who seem drawn to this little cottage industry.

There is a great post on The Carpetbagger Report from a few days ago about the mainstream media's (specifically Time magazine's) ignoring the prosecutor purge scandal.
http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/10367.html
What explains the failure of the mainstream media to cover the purge scandal for so long, and so many other scandals? Do you think somebody just set up newspaper editors to cheat on their wives, and threatened to tell if the editors wouldn’t play ball when they come back some day and ask for something?
It wouldn’t be that hard to do, when you think about it. People wouldn’t talk about it.

I'm just listening to Chicago's public radio station, which reports a student at the Art Institute here has created a statue of Obama as Jesus Christ. Here's a link to a CBS story on it from earlier today:

Obviously Obama isn't the Messiah. But I think we of the left should think about the cynicism and snarkiness dirested toward him.. Why this effort to tear him down? I'm just glad the charismatic, teflon coated politician is onn our side. I donn't get what the emotional need is thhat drives people to the "Oh he's a fake. He isn't the Messiah" meme. How does it help our side to knock the shinne off our politician?

I'd say he qualifies:
Mes-si-ah 1: The expected king and deliverer of the Jews
Senator Obama's speech to AIPAC (portion):" . . . when we see all the growing threats in the region, from Iran to Iraq to resurgents of al Qaeda to the reinvigoration of Hamas and Hezbollah, that loyalty and that friendship will guide me as we begin to lay the stones that will build the road that takes us from the current instability to lasting peace and security."

we don't think it is reasonable to spend hundreds thousands dollars to buy a decorating watch. you can use those money to invest in other industry which will return you good profit.
here you just need to spend 100-200 dollars to buy a replica rolex watches.
Rolex Masterpiece replica watches are made by the rating 1:1 according to the original watches, and you can't distinguish the original and the fake watches when you look at the surface of the watches.
