RIP, Molly Ivins and Bob Drinan
Posted by Rosa Brooks
Two people I knew and admired died this week: Father Bob Drinan, the first Roman Catholic priest to be elected to Congress and a dedicated human rights activist, and Molly Ivins, syndicated columnist and dedicated Texan progressive. Both were outspoken, brave, and funny, their toughness exceeded only by their kindness and their deep commitment to justice. We need more people like them.
Damned straight. Father Drinan was from the great PEACEful state of Massachusetts. Okay, it's not New Hampshire, but it'll do. He was the first to propose the impeachment of Tricky Dick Nixon. Good man. Molly Ivins, a graduate of Smith College in Massachusetts--she recently wrote that an eight foot fence on the Mexican border will lead to the sales of many ten foot ladders. One of her last fighting paragraphs:
"We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we're for them and trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush's proposed surge. If you can, go to the peace march in Washington on January 27. We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, 'Stop it, now!'"
These two people stand tall even in death on their own right, and also because there are so few that can match their strength, humor and rightness. Rest in peace, you giants.

Hey Don, when you're done on the 27th can you take your pots and pans to Tehran or Damascus or Jerusalem and demand that they "Stop it, not"? Let me know how that works for you.

Commander,
I am a citizen of the United States, not of Iran, Syria or Israel, so I will naturally exercise my citizen rights in the United States and not in foreign countries. Your concept of traveling to other countries to affect their policies might appeal to you but I think it's silly, and I doubt that you've ever done it.

Hi! I thought you and your readers might be interested in some post-Easter news about Pope Benedict XVI...
The Pope's car is being auctioned off to raise money for Habitat for Humanity:
www.buyacarvideos.com/popecar.htm
The bidding is already more than $200,000! Personally, I think this is a really fun and creative way to raise
money. The auction goes until April 14th if you and your readers want to check it out.

Rolex Air King replica watches are made by the rating 1:1 according to the original watches, and you can't distinguish the original and the fake watches when you look at the surface of the watches.
